Kerry: Climate change as dangerous as WMDs
Kerry: Climate change as dangerous as WMDs
Kerry, who delivered the speech on Sunday in the capital, Jakarta,
spoke critically about climate change sceptics adding that everyone and
every country must take responsibility and act immediately.
"We simply don't have time to let a few loud interest groups hijack
the climate conversation," he said, referring to what he called "big
companies" that "don't want to change and spend a lot of money" to act
to reduce the risks.
He later singled out big oil and coal concerns as the primary offenders.
"The science is unequivocal, and those who refuse to believe it are simply burying their heads in the sand,'' Kerry said.

ACTION: Last chance to save whale hotspot, Kangaroo Island
ACTION: Last chance to save whale hotspot, Kangaroo Island
"Kangaroo Island’s whales and dolphins are still at risk from oil and
gas exploration and this is our final chance to protect them.
Bight
Petroleum are still ploughing ahead with their application to conduct
seismic testing off Kangaroo Island, despite the previous Environment
Minister twice demanding a higher level of environmental assessment for
this proposal.
Worryingly, Bight Petroleum’s plan to carry out
seismic testing in this whale hotspot is one of many development
proposals for the wider Great Australian Bight (GAB). BP has already
carried out a huge seismic surveying program in the GAB and further
seismic surveying has been proposed or is already under way in the
area."
